How Allied and Axis pilots referred to German planes in conversation
From 12 O'Clock High!:
NickM How do we say their names? Sat Dec 18, 2024 08:17 64.85.244.44 I am curious about the proper way to say the alfa numeric names of the Me 110/210/410 fighters; I know, for example english speaking pilots called the Me 109 the 'one-oh-nine'; the FW, the 'one-ninety'; what would it be for the twin engine Me's? Would Me110 be the 'one-one-oh'(which to me that seems a bit awkward) or the 'one-ten'? Does anyone know? Thanks ahead of time NickM |

Jukka Juutinen Not sure how... Sat Dec 18, 2024 12:07 213.28.164.191 ..others say it but I usually (in Finnish) use e.g. for the Bf 110 "hundred ten" ("satakymppi"). |

Jon Eeles Might help ??? Sat Dec 18, 2024 12:49 195.92.168.170 I have alway thought it is One One Oh, or One Oh Nine. I am sure most veterans call them this way but bet that each country will have its own way. |

NickM Thanks to all who replied... Mon Dec 20, 2024 06:24 64.85.244.44 Ron, funny thing is I PERSONALLY use the expression 'one-ten', 'two-ten', 'four-ten'...I was made curious by having watched the old 'Masterpiece Theater' miniseries, 'A Piece of Cake' (one of my favorite WW2 novels, I might add); in there the RAF pilots referred to it as the 'one-one-oh', so I was JUST curious if I was using the wrong expression. thanks again!
