Vidar’s Jan Mayen Page, by Vidar T.
Jan Mayen is an arctic island. The site address is:
http://home.online.no/~vteigen/index_e.html Of Luftwaffe interest is an article about the remains of a FW 200 C4 that crashed on the island on August 7, 1942. The article can be reached by clicking on "What is new" and then "one of the planes", which brings you to the article simply titled "CRASH". The URL for this webpage is: http://home.online.no/~vteigen/planecrash.html The article includes 6 color photos, some of which show remnants from the aircraft. Regards, Richard |

Anonymous No Subject Tue Jul 27, 2024 20:23 148.122.228.218 Hello I was looking at some papers, written by a guy that was at Jan Mayen during the war. In those papers there is a photo of a plate that seems to come from a FW 200,It says: "Weser" Flugzugbau etc. Lizenz:Focke Wulf Muster:FW-200 WerkNr:343-0104, Baujahr:11.41., Is it possible to find out what plane that comes from, and its fate ? regards stril |

Johann Palsson Fw 200 F8+AB Wed Jul 28, 2024 11:27 212.30.220.105 The Fw 200 was flew from Drondheim-Værnes and was looking for PQ18, that the Germans thought was near the Jan Mayen on 7.8.1942. (But the germans had been led to belive that PQ18 saild in early August). The Fw 200's of I/KG 40 flew usually with 2 SC250 (250 kg) on reconnaissance missions. So they were not for attacking the Norwegian at Jan Mayen. The F8+AB was probable blind-flying in the clouds when it flew in to the mountain, the crew thinking the were over the sea. There were 6 in the crew of the F8+AB. Ofw. Alfons Kleinschnittger (F, Pilot) Fw. Paul Lemke (F, co-pilot) Uffz. Werner Schetle (Bf, 1. radio operator) Uffz. Oskar Walter (Bf, 2. radio operator) Ofw. Karl Classow (Bm, Flight enginer) Uffz. Josef Kotzur (Bs, Gunner) The other 3 that are buried at Narvik are from Ju 88D-1 1B+BH that crashed on 15.7.1942, it was not found until 1950. It had a 4 men crew. I would be interested to know more about the material you have, can you contact me by e-mail? Regards, Johann Palsson |
