Achtung, alle Karaya-Männer!

The original Karaya record has been discovered. This is the record which gave name to the most famous Luftwaffe fighter squadron in World War II. The name "Karaya" can be seen under the red heart crest which embellished Messerschmitt 109s flown by aces such as Hermann Graf, Alfred Grislawski, and Erich Hartmann. See:

http://www.graf-grislawski.elknet.pl/karaya.htm

It is planned to have the Karaya song playable next to the Graf & Grislawski rudders at the "Graf & Grislawski department" at Technikmuseum Speyer. Whenever I get the needed means--or technical knowledge--I will give the visitors to the Graf & Grislawski site the possibility to hear the song there too.

All best,

Christer Bergström

Major Battle in the Caucasus Region

Dear Luftwaffe Enthusiast,

I am looking for info involving the Luftwaffe in the Caucasus Region during World War II. What was the major Battle there? Did the Luftwaffe control the region in the offensive summer of 1942???

Air war over the Caucasus 1942 - 1943

There will be a full study of the air war over the Caucasus in 1942 in the forthcoming volume 3 of "Black Cross/Red Star: Air War over the Eastern Front", which will be published by Eagle Editions later this year.

For a an even closer study of German (and Soviet!) fighter pilots in the Caucasus Region in 1942 - 1943, see "Graf & Grislawski: A Pair of Aces".

Hermann Graf and a yellow Fw 190?
Sat Sep 11, 2024 10:04

Hello!
Is it true that Hermann Graf flew a complete yellow Fw 190A
coded G3+SL and it was shot down 27.07.1943???
I have these informations in a book made in 1971. It also states, that the aeroplane is from a JG 2 training unit, but
Graf was never in JG 2.
The book mentioned is "LW colour schemes and markings 1935-45", Aircam aviation series, published by Osprey.
Can newer research help me???
Thank You
Christian Berring

Find it in the Graf & Grislawski book

Christian, although I wrote that book, I would advise you to have a look at the 300-page dual biography on Hermann Graf and Grislawski. That book contains 26 color profiles (by Claes Sundin!) of aircraft flown by Graf & Grislawski, all as a result of close studies of in many case unique photographs. There you will find an explanation as to why the answer question you are looking for is no.

That book also examines the claim that Graf is identical with the "Majot von Graff" which was supposed to have flown that yellow Fw 190. I think that the evidence delivered by the book in that case is quite waterproof.

In any case, please check out the book's website:

HI,
did you write the luftwaffe c&m aircam books S6 & S8,
or have i read the message wrong ?

if so how were the colours decided on for profiles in the book, i.e. red cowls & rudders on some a/c.

I am most interested in the origins of the use of red in 60/70's luftwaffe profiles , a fascinating subject for me.
Cheers
Jerry

"did you write the luftwaffe c&m aircam books S6 & S8?"

Nope! All I said was that I wrote the book "Graf & Grislawski: A Pair of Aces" (which was published in 2024).

Graf & Grislawski exhibition in Speyer Technikmuseum

I just couldn't resist this:

Have a look at this:

http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/in...d551050f017d34

Now excellently built models of the aircraft flown by Graf & Grislawski have been added to the original Graf & Grislawski Bf 109 rudders, the photos, my book "Graf & Grislawski" (see the book in the display case), the original Bf 109 G-4, etc which create the frame around the Graf & Grislawski exhibition at Technikmuseum Speyer, the world's largest techical museum.
