Can anyone advise whether there are any documents available that provide details of Lw aircraft being sent to repair depots, and then being returned to field units (not necessarily the 'old' unit they came from) after being repaired? I would be grateful for any assistance if such documents exist.

I have some data on aircraft send in 1944 to ex-PZL Okecie facilities for major repairs. No data on reissue and no 110s IIRC. Not sure if it can help, anyway you can drop me a note off board.

John,
at the Bundesarchiv Freiburg are lists of aircraft repaired at different shops such as Ludwig Hansen, Erla etc. However, they cover the period up to August 1940 only. I have some xerox-copies of these lists. Are you looking for a particular aircraft and/or Werknummer?

Can you state the earliest dates on these documents and whether any had D- or WL- registrations

Many thanks

Tony,
unfortunately I do not know what D- or WL-registrations are. The earliest dates for aircraft sent to the different repair shops are 1937. Apparently, these lists were drawn up in August 1940 get an overview as to the capacity of the so-called repair industry. I would, hence, conclude that they give fairly complete informations on which aircraft were repaired and how heavy they were damaged. Normally the Werknummer of the individual aircraft is mentioned, sometimes added with the version of the different types, i.e. Bf 109 D or E. All of these lists give information on how long (in working hours) repair took.

Were any rebuild as H? If so, would they be given new production numbers?

Several 111P were repaired at the Arado Brandenburg works, starting with P 2637 at 18.8.39, then P 1376 (16.8.39), P 1401 (19.9.39), P 1395 (28.9.39) and so forth. Whether this was linked to a conversion to H's doesn't become clear. At least a new number is not recorded.
