Aviation History Society Norway, by Andreas Brekken
The webmaster, Andreas Brekken, describes the society's aims as follows:
"These pages are the home of the Aviation History Society Norway, or in the native language Norsk Luftfartshistorisk Nettverk. The society will be working to preserve information and physical information of the aviation heritage with an empasis on a link to Norway, in one way or the other. The plan is to make this information accessible, both through the Internet, but also through publications and articles. These pages are supposed to be both a place ot read about the current projects the society are undertaking, but also a tool for the members and other aviation history societies, as it will in time be filled with original documents and articles written by the members." The site address is: http://www.ahs.no Current articles of Luftwaffe interest include: Sandgelb RLM 79 on II./JG 5 Bf 109Fs? Making the case! One of the many controversies in regard to camouflage and markings seen on aircraft of the Third Reich during WWII centres around the possibly use of RLM 79 Sandgelb (desert brown) on Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4/trops allocated to II. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 5 in summer/fall/1942. Profiles in Norway Vol 3 - Messerschmitt Bf 109T The new issue in the Profiles in Norway series of booklets is on the market, offering scale drawings, historic information, color profiles and photographs of the Messerschmitt Bf 109T. Luftwaffe Im Focus The new Luftwaffe im Focus series of booklets is on the market, offering interesting images of aircraft which was operated by the Luftwaffe in Norway during World War II. The site is just starting out and I wish Andreas much success. Regards, Richard |

Andreas Brekken Loss of Erg.K.G.1 on 17.02.1945 Thu Jul 29, 2024 09:30 80.212.207.88 Hi, guys! On 23.03.45, lfd.Nr. 53, a loss is entered for the He 111 WNr 5301 and crew F Uffz. Erhard Raubaum (KIFA), Bf Uffz. Gabriel Bann (KIFA), Bm Uffz. Julius Hering (KIFA) and Bs Uffz. Sebastian Jennerlein. Unit listed as IV./Erg.K.G.1. I am now going through my database for duplicate entries, and this is one that came up. It is also listed on 17.03.1945, lfd.Nr.60, but with the following names, and this time as I./Erg.K.G.1: F Uffz. Erhard Raubaum (KIFA), Bf Uffz. Hans Gabriel (KIFA), Bm Uffz. Julius Häring (KIFA) and Bs Uffz. Sebastian Jenerwein. This is probably sorted out in a correction entered AFTER 01.04.1945, and thus not currently available. Has anyone got information to sort this out? Currently it is just registered with comment on the reference stating the divergence between the report. For the registered info, see: http://www.ahs.no/discussion_images/He_111_WNr_5301.gif Thank heaven for relationale databases! Regards, Andreas |

Rune Rautio Bf 109 Skz with JG 5 Sun Oct 3, 2024 14:42 80.212.167.35 I have a photo shot at Luostari airfield (Petsamo) during summer 1943, showing a Bf 109G in repair with part of the Stammkennzeichen visible: __+GE. Close to the aircraft is a pilot from 6./JG 5, indicating that the a/c could have belonged to that Staffel - or at least II. Gruppe. Any idea what could be the complete SKz - and the Werke-Nr.? Kari Lumppio Bf 109 _+GE Mon Oct 4, 2024 12:02 130.233.83.21 Hei Rune! From the Finnish logs I have collected: Date type code route landing time 23.5.1942 Bf 109 CL GE Reval - Pori 15:30 31.5.1942 Bf 109 F-4 CL GE Pori - Kemi - The most likely WNr for CL+GE is 10139. I do not have primary source telling that directly, but the CL+G_ block and known WNrs do match nicely. All in all during Spring 1942 there are 12 Bf 109s from block CL+G_ travelling through Pori towards North. Hope this helps some, Kari |

Andreas Brekken WNr 10139 Mon Oct 4, 2024 12:23 80.212.192.226 Hi. If the date is summer 43, it cannot be this bird. Uffz Ludwig Scharf was killed flying this one on Sept. 15th 1942. (Coded Gelbe 4) Regards, Andreas Brekken |

Rune Rautio WNr 10139 Thu Oct 7, 2024 09:20 81.0.130.141 Hi Kari and Andreas. Thank you for valuable feedback! My information that the photo must have been shot in 1943 was based on the assumption that this was a G-model. But when examining the photo more closely by better scans, I suddenly realized that there is this extra panzer glas on the canopy, which is the clear sign of an F-4. Thise really changes a lot - and Kari's assumption that this might be WNr 10139 therefore seem to be quite possible. The photo must have been shot end of May or early June 1942, as there are still no leaves on the trees, and that fits very will with the delivery dates given my Kari. Rune |

Andreas Brekken My speculation would be Mon Oct 4, 2024 12:20 80.212.192.226 Bf 109G-2 WNr 14192, BI+GE. I cannot give details on this bird now, maybe someone else has it in their records? Bf 109G-2 WNr 14190, which would hold the Stkz BI+GC was lost by II./JG 5 on 5th June 1943, marked 'Black 4' and flown by Lt. Dahlschmidt according to my information. See link to database record below: http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...p?lossid=27313 Regards, Andreas Brekken |

Andreas Brekken andrebre@online.no Gradnetz conversion online Tue Dec 21, 2024 15:47 83.109.158.123 Hi, guys. Frank Scherff gave me a kick in the butt by making a gradnetz conversion utility for Excel. I have for a long time meant to make one, but there are so many things to do, and so little time. I have however used some hours and made one: http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/map_geo_location_gradnetz.asp Please note: It is not finished, only North and East locations are available at the moment (meaning north of 1 degree Southern Latitude and East of 0 degrees Longitude). I have also yet to include the Arbeitstrapez, but as very few locations are given with this accuracy in the records, this is something to use as a start anyhow. Will complete it in the following days, beginning with adding the Arbeitstrapez, and then the other quarters of the earth (NW, SO, SW). Regards, Andreas Brekken PS! I made this, I own it. If You want it for Your webpage, ask politely, or prepare to go to court.... as for other commercial products, this is protected by law. |

Andreas Brekken Gradnetz tool updated Wed Dec 22, 2024 13:39 83.109.158.123 Hi. Have updated a bit. 'OST' part now valid down to Arbeitstrapez. 'WEST' part valid down to Mitteltrapez. More to follow. Regards, Andreas PS! There might be some problems when closing in on Equator, I haven't checked these special areas yet, but will correct later on. (for locations giving a center of a trapez south of 0 degrees) |
