Although some people seem to have an allergy about the "what ifs" of history, one can't help salivating about what if the British had got wind of Hitler's flight to Finland, and attempted a long-range airborne assassination like the Americans succeeded on Yamamoto in 1943. Were Mosquitoes with sufficient range available in early 1942? And what fight the escort would put up! Presumably such an attempt would have been beyond the mindset of the Russians at that stage, or even at any stage! Even of the British it might not have seemed "gentlemanly", had it not been for Churchill's sworn oath: "I will track the Nazi Bloodbeast back to his lair!".
