Normand de Réponse Normandie Wed Jun 18 19:05:47 2024 195.93.66.6 Have a look at Carpiquet airfield : very active during WW II and also afterwards. Military part (you have to come from the South) now "sold" to the Army (what a shame!) but both big historical hangars are still here. The other side (North, towards the sea) is now aéroport de Caen. About 15 years ago there was a Mystère II at the entrance of the airport. Bernay airfield, active during WW II too, is worth a visit. Have a look at Beaumont-le-Roger, JG 2's hideout. OVER the town (northwards I think) on the plateau the place of the old airfield is still here - but no airfield. You still can see the concrete foundations and the apron, they are in perfect shape (well, concrete...). Ask the local people for details. |

The museum is well sign posted and in there you will find a special department about the airwar during the battle. Lots to see, I really can recommend it!! |
