Much of James Yeowell's Horrido! - The Luftwaffe Research Website either never existed or has been drastically curtailed. What remains essentially are tables of Bf 109 Stammkennzeichen and a listing of Bf 109 survivors & replicas. The website address is:
http://www.yeowell19.freeserve.co.uk/ The sections of interest on this site are: What's New - The usual site updates. Unfortunately, the site has not been updated since Dec. 1999. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 Research page <U>Bf 109 Stammkennzeichen</U> - Tables of Stammkennzeichen for the following ranges: Stammkennzeichen ??+AA - FL+?? The Virtual Aviation Museum website's strength is in its listing of aviation museums in Europe. While there is the occasional photo and minimal technical and historical detail, these are not the site's strenghts. The address of the site is:

The Military Aviation in Sweden - Aircraft Gallery webpage, by Jonathan & Lars Henriksson, presents much information on German designed aircraft used by Sweden, as well as photos and links to Swedish museums with remaining examples. The webpage address is:
http://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/index.htm Each aircraft section contains histories and illustrations of the aircraft and a bibliography. Frequently, photos of remaining examples in museums are presented, either directly, or through links. The Henriksson's have provided links to the following museum sites of Luftwaffe interest: "<U>Flygvapenmuseum</U>, The Official Museum of the Swedish Air Force. Located at Malmslätt, also called Malmen, near Linköping. Malmslätt is by many regarded as the cradle of the Swedish aviation. The museum is a must to visit!" "<U>Svedino's Automobile and Aviation Museum</U> at Ugglarp near Falkenberg on the Swedish West Coast has an impressing collection of old cars and military and civil aircraft. The museum has just built a new hangar of 1800 sq m." "<U>Svensk Flyghistorisk Förening (Swedish Aviation Historical Society)</U>, the major association for aviation history in Sweden with connections to the Air Force." I couldn't determine whether there were any German designed aircraft in the musuem, but there are period photos of German design aircraft on the site. "<U>Tekniska Museet (Museum of Science and Technology)</U> in Stockholm has some preserved old aircraft in its big collection" The museum also has a library and archives. "<U>Västerås Flygmuseum</U> - an interesting private aircraft museum. Västerås is not far from Stockholm." "<U>Arlanda Aerospace Flygmuseum</U> has a big collection of civil aircraft. Located at the Arlanda Airport. The museum is closed for the public for the moment." Besides the museum sites, there are a number of links to Swedish aviation sites and email addresses of individuals with strong interest in Swedish aviation. Updates - As the name implies, a useful introduction to the sort of material available on the webpage. Regards, Richard |

Mikael Olrog 20 mm MG 204 used on Do 26 Sat Aug 17 17:05:13 2024 213.89.103.197 At the Krigsminnesmuseum in Narvik (Norway), I saw a 20 mm MG 204 exhibited next to some other preserved relics from the Do 26. I don't think that I've heard about the MG 204 before so that was a surprise to me. Can anyone confirm the use of the MG 204 on the Do 26? Was it used on any other aircraft too? I'd also be interested in some general data on the MG 204, which as I understand was a pre-war developed cannon. Thanks! /Mikael |

Peter D Evans re: Do26 armament Sat Aug 17 17:36:35 2024 62.30.112.1 Hi Mikael... All the reference material I have points to five of the six Do 26's built being armed with one 20-mm MG151 cannon in the bow turret, one 7.9-mm MG15 machine gun firing aft from each of the two lateral amidships blisters and one 7.9-mm MG15 firing aft from a position behind the rearplaning bottom step... No mention of a MG204 is made, but it could be that this weapon was discovered with the wreck of a Do26 which served with 1./Ku.Fl.Gr.506 which was shot down by RAF Hurricanes which made a forced landing at Narvik. It seems that Do 26's were used as troop carriers and it might be that the MG 204 in question was cargo during one such flight... just a theory anyway cheers Peter D Evans - moderator LEMB - Luftwaffe Experten Message Board |

robert inkol Re: re: Do26 armament Sun Aug 18 01:44:33 2024 24.42.208.51 I'm sure that, at this early date, the supply of MG151s must have been very limited. I wouldn't be surprised if alternatives were used, particularly in a transport flying boat given the expectation that combat would be avoided as far as possible. I think I've seen references to HS 404s being used in Do 24s later in the war. Robert Inkol |

Kjetil Aakra MG 204 Sun Aug 18 00:22:49 2024 217.70.229.38 The MG 204 was indeed fitted to the Do 26s as a defensive weapon. It was a very rare gun, AFAIK it lost out to the MG FF. It was, if memory serves, also used on the mid-fuselage turret position of the Do 24V-1 TJ+HR which also served in Narvik and on some BV 138s. I don't think all BV 138s used this cannon, probably just the initial series (BV 138A). Nice Museum at Narvik, right!? Kjetil |

Mikael Olrog MG 204 Sun Aug 18 13:43:14 2024 213.89.103.197 Thanks for the information Kjetil! Since most information on the Do 26 lists the MG 151 or MG FF as the armament, I guess that changed over time. The museum was excellent, though it seems that some space was under reconstruction. I also liked the Lofoten Krigsminnesmuseum. /Mikael |

George Hopp MG 204 on Do 26? Sun Aug 18 01:03:53 2024 134.117.137.63 How certain are you that the captions on what you saw were coorrect? I ask because I find no reference to an MG 204 in either "Flugzeug Bewaffnung" by Manfried Schliephake, or "German Aircraft Guns WWI - WW II" by Edward Hoffschmidt. As for the Do 26, the closest it got to your MG 204 was an MG 151 in a nose turret. But, the Do 24 T carried an HS (Hispano-Suiza)404 in a dorsal turret; and perhaps this is what you saw. Mind you, I have been wrong before; but, that's my opinion for what it's worth. Good luck in your quest, George |

Mikael Olrog MG 204 on Do 26? Sun Aug 18 13:39:43 2024 213.89.103.197 I've got photographic evidence of the caption and the gun... When you see something that rare, the camera need to be used to docomuent it! I think that Kjetil is right, that it was used on some limited scale, until the production of the MG 151 gained pace. The caption stated that the MG 204 was from 1938. It has the caracteristic "mickey mouse ears" drum magazine. /Mikael |

Tony Williams MG 204 Wed Aug 21 20:27:45 2024 195.149.37.162 The MG 204 was a Rheinmetall-Borsig weapon which fired unique 20x105 ammunition. It was only ever drum-fed, and was used in a few examples of seaplanes and flying-boats, as mentioned in other posts. It was not considered very satisfactory and was replaced by the MG 151 when these became available. Relatives of the pilot Walter Prost are also at the sight. Many parts have been uncovered including cigarettes, a wrist-watch and a ID-disk which has confused the diggers as it did not belong to Walter Prost. Could it be that of the navigator/tail gunner??? (no mention of this in the news) The plane, a BF-110-G4 was shot down by American bombers and the pilot killed in the crash. |

The UHU 1 was electrically attached to FuG17 and was the "Einbausatz".---- UHU 2 was a similar equipment - coupled to the aircraft's FuG16zy- working on 38-42 mHz- the supplement radio set - the "Einbausatz" was the FuG135. -- The Fug16 and FuG17 were alike, only difference was the frequency. FuG16zy was a normal Zielfluggerät, by which the aircraft could "home" on a received radio signal from a beacon-- The FuG16 and FuG17 worked also as ordinary radio telephones and were standard navigation equipment from about beginning of 1944 -- Before then the navigation radio traffic had been carried on long-wave on telegraphy (morse)using the equipment of the FuG10 (EL=Empfänger Langwelle)--vy73-KAL+ |
