Halifax LK885 MH-Z 51 sq. Totenliste 227
Dear fellow researchers,
In 1993 a Halifax was recovered near the town of Eindhoven (Netherlands) hoping to find the two missing crewmembers (S.P.Beech - tail gunner and the pilot Carl Lawson). In the debriefing reports of the other (captured) crewmembers it is mentioned that the Germans had told them that they had found two bodies of the flight engineer (Wilf Gosnay) and the tailgunner Sgt. S.P.(Stan) Beech (R/60032) at the crash location. Only the flight engineer is burried at the Eindhoven war cemetary. The bodie of the Stan Beech is still missing. In German records a so called "Totenliste 227" is mentioned. Does anyone know what information is in this Totenliste 227 and where of it? Crash information: Hallifax MH-Z 51sq ; crash date 24/25 May 1944.(May 25th approx. 01.15 hours). Target :Aachen marshalling yards. Shot down by Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer IV/NJG1 I would appreciate any information on this as well as pointers that could help me further. RAF Halifax LX885 - crashed near Eindhoven, 25-05-1944
As a follow-up to this post, I have just committed to research the crew members, and the story of LX885 for the 51 Squadron Historical group. Has anyone any further information on this posting, or this aircraft and crew? I'd be most appreciative of any leads you can provide.
Thanks Rod Keith |
