Anders: Should have picked that one up! Wk Nr 3172 and he remained St Kap of 3/NJG 1. Thanks for this and the note about the book (which Cato Guhnfeld must have used in his book)

Catos book..

Cato Guhnfeld has written a MARVELOUS book about
the events at Forebu airfield 9 april 1940..
a real pity its only published (AFAIK)in Norwegian
and yes he sometimes quotes from Hansens book..
but only to show/tell how Hansen rewrote some events
to suite his purpose.
Hansen seems to have been a somewhat devious character..

Do you have Catos email?
otherwise I may proivide some pointers

Regards Anders

(The book referred to is:

Fornebu 9. april, by Cato Guhnfeld.

Unknown Binding: 368 pages
Publisher: Wings; (1990)
ASIN: 8299219418

Fornebu airfield was located at Oslo, Norway.

Regards,
Richard)

I was in touch with Cato when he was writing this book and yes, Norwegian only. I have a number of photos of Hansen (from Ul Kettling of 1/ZG 76) but do not really need access to his book

Hello Chris,

Nice to meet again! You do perhaps remember that the history of I.NJG 1 has my attention for some years now. As Werner Hansen was Staffelkapitan of the 3./NJG 1, would it be possible to provide a good scan of one of those photo's of Hansen?
I was aware of Hansen's career before he joined I.NJG 1 from that Squadron Publication's book "Bf110 in Action" but the mentioning of a book from Hansen himself AND comments from the Norwegian author is totally new for me!

Many thanks in advance! Marcel Hogenhuis

PS. could you grant permission if I would like to use a Hansen picture for an publication in the future about the history of I.NJG 1 and Venlo airfield in WW-2 ? In that case, a 300 dpi scan would be warmly appreciated.
Though Hansen probably never was in Venlo, his personal history is part of that of the I.NJG 1.

Default Werner Hansen

Hi Richard
I have recently completed a documentary entitled A VERY SHORT WAR centred around the life of my uncle who lost his life in the skies over Oslo when his Sunderland L2167 of RAF 210 Squadron was shot down on the 9th April 1940, the day Germany invaded Norway and the Phoney War came to an end. The Sunderland was shot down by two Bf 110s piloted by Oblt Helmut Lent and Oblt Werner Hansen.
I am most interested in these two characters and have a lot of information on them but have been unable to find any photographs of Hansen. I noticed that you mentioned you had some so was wondering if you would feel comfortable in sharing them with me. My email address is avsw@internode.on.net
For your information, here is the website for our documentary:-
http://www.averyshortwar.com
Also, here is a short scene from our documentary on our production company's website:-

If you feel so inclined I would love to hear from you.
Kind regards
Bill Young (Sydney, Australia)
