Hello, all!
After a lengthy telephone call to the person in charge of the Armed Forces archive, a department of the National Archive in Oslo, Norway, I hope the following information will be of interest to the group: A handbook describing the holdings at the archive is available. Most of the ex-German documents at Riksarkivet (Natinal Archive) are not ordered or catalogued. The holdings consist of (at least): 1.000 shelf meters of documents from Org. Todt, which of course hold information on the construction of airfields etc. in Norway during WWII. ~50 shelf meters of unordered documents labeled "Heer". ~70 shelf meters of unordered documents labeled "Kriegsmarine". ~96 shelf meters of unordered documents labeled "Luftwaffe". ~67 shelf meters of unordered documents with no specific label In addition, the National Archive has prepared a catalogue called "Norvegica in Freiburg", which is a catalogue of documents related to the German occupation of Norway now at BA/MA. The sad story is that the uncatalogued materail is unaccessible. That is, a person visiting the archives would be allowed to visit the storage room, with a companion, but would not be allowed to work on the documents. These documents are not to be catalogued for at least 5 years, and thus are unaccessible to the public. I will try to get something going on this issue, and will post any updates here. The homepage of the National Archive is located at: http://www.riksarkivet.no/ With a list of contacts, addresses etc in English at: http://www.riksarkivet.no/adresses.html Regards to all, Andreas [This message has been edited by Andreas Brekken (edited 11 August 2024).] |
