Log book of Wolfgang NEU
I am working on a project to bring back alive memories of WWII soldiers and airmen who fell and are burried in Belgium. As my partner is Czech, I started digging into W/O Arnost Mrtvy who died in Belgium on 19 April 1944 during a bomber escort mission above Mechelen (Malines in French).
A couple of days ago I had the occasion to visit the monument on the Olomouc cemetry of the Aeroclub of Olomouc where Mrtvy was mentioned. I equally visited the old Olomouc aeroclub installations with the Wagner hangars (apparently the oldest in Europe still in service), where he apparently began his flying carreer. l equally find out that he was shot down by Lt Wolfgang NEU on April 19th 1944. One of the pieces of the puzzle to trace Arnost's last day(s) and hours back would be to add more background on the men who shot him down, and the circumstances during which Mrtvy died, etc. So basically, I am asking if you could help me find more details about Wolfgang NEU, his 4 Staffel 26 JG, his log book, etc. If you would be able to provide me any more relevant information about Arnost Mrtvy or the 313 Czechoslovakian Sqn such as photographs, maps, links, or any other contacts you might have would be more then appreciated. Hoping you could help me keeping some of the forgotten Czech heroes alive, Kind regards Last edited by Marc SEGERS; 05-17-2010 at 03:00 PM. Reason: typo |
