Peter 'Mikolaj' Mikolajski Remains of He 177? Identification needed Sat Nov 13, 2024 13:50 213.199.235.34 Hello! Yesterday in Skiwa village (near Siemiatycze), eastern part of Poland, remains of unknown German plane were discovered. According to villagers claims this plane was shot down by Russian plane on June 8th, 1944, together with another German plane. Following factory plate was found: Gerät Nr: 8-177.210-06 Werk Nr: 30685 | 3 Hersteller: dqw Unfortunately remains are not complete. Only two inline (12-cylinder inverted-Vee) engines with undercarriage were found. It seems that this plane was He 177, but I'm not 100% sure. Can anyone tell more about this plane? |

Peter 'Mikolaj' Mikolajski Re: He 177 Sun Nov 14, 2024 22:17 213.199.235.34 It seems that this He 177 was part of KG 1 flying from Prowehen or Seerappen near Königsberg between May-July 1944. Unfortunately I'm still unable to learn more about exact version because WNr (or other info from dataplate) doesn't fit to these known by me. (List compiled from Militaria's "He 177 Greif" book by Janusz Ledwoch): He 177A-0 00016-00030 (Rostock) 5001- 5005 (Arado) 32001-32015 (Oranienburg) He 177A-1 15151- 15280 (Oranienburg) 135006-135024 (Oranienburg) 335001-335005 (Arado) He 177A-3 15291- 15346 (Arado) 332101-332148 (Heinkel) 332206 (Heinkel) 332337-332518 (Arado) 332351-332376 (Heinkel) 535347-535354 (Arado) 535364-535460 (Arado) 535533-535596 (Arado) 535727-535794 (Arado) 535848-535869 (Arado) He 177A-5 550001-550201 (Heinkel) 550202-550333 (Arado) Any ideas about this plane? |

Rabe Anton He 177 Werknummer Thu Nov 18, 2024 15:04 132.60.240.80 Peter, The reason that you cannot find the WNr. 30 685 as a He 177 Werknummer is because the WNr. 30 685 is the PART or COMPONENT Werknummer. Such part or component numbers were NOT the same as those for the airframe as a whole. RA |

Peter 'Mikolaj' Mikolajski Re: He 177 Werknummer Thu Nov 18, 2024 15:14 213.199.235.34 Hi! I know that WNrs for plane and for components are not exchangable. This misunderstanding is rather my unperfect English fault ) I remember that last year I had dataplate from Bf 109's engine and someone gave me a lot of info not only about engine itslf but also about plane equipped with it. I hoped that someone have docs with listing of WNrs assigned to He 177's undercarriages and can help to identify plane's WNr. Right now I'm 99% sure that this is He 177A-3 from II./KG 1, one of 5 planes lost in June 1944 and that's all what I can say. Regards, Peter |
