From TOCH!:
Steve W. Stammrolle-Nr. Tue Mar 16 13:19:27 2024 64.12.116.196 The number was the equivalent of a military service number assigned to an individual upon joining the Luftwaffe (or Herr, Kriegsmarine, etc.). It was stamped on the soldier's identity disk (dog tag). The Stammrollen did survive the war and today are in the possession of either WASt in Berlin and/or BA-ZNS in Aachen. I hope you understand that these lists number in the thousands and contain some 2½ million names, and that's just for the Luftwaffe. I don't believe that they were ever converted into some sort of easily retrievable media after the war, so I have no idea how you would go about accessing them. You may want to write a letter (or send an e-mail) to WASt and ask them for their advice. Steve W. |
