From 12 O'Clock High!:
Doug Norrie Oil bombs Fri Dec 10, 2024 23:51 211.27.13.189 Hi everybody Can somebody please tell me what type of Luftwaffe bombs these were please. The diary entry below was written by 450 Squadron RAAF groundstaff Fitter at Gambut 'drome, Libya, 1st June 1942 'Jerry was over early this morning, ground strafing and bombing, but he seems to be a hell of a bad shot with his bombs going over the escarpment. In the gully is mass of holes. Some of them are where the oil bombs landed, and they set fire to anything in the vicinity of 50 to 100yds.' Other diary descriptions list oil bombs through June and July 1942. They appear to be some sort of imflammable bomb or incendiary. Thanks for any help Doug |
