After the Germans left, 127 fuselages and 162 wings of Fw 190A-4s, A-5s and A-8s were found in a Frontreparatur work at Cravant (Yonne). Matched to about one hundred BMW 801 engines found in Dordogne, the French hoped to assemble 125 Fw 190s under the new designation of AACr-6 or NC.900.
The first assembled aircraft flew on 1 March 1945 but the French experienced a lot of troubles, not only due to the Resistance. Airframes and engines had been built for a very short expectance of life. Hastily recycled metals from different origins used for the wing spars revealed numerous flaws.
Only 14 NC.900s were delivered to "Normandie-Niémen" where they only served for 18 months. Most of the 55 other NC.900s were used by CEV (centre d'essais en vol) at Brétigny. The last recorded NC.900 flight occured on 22 June 1949.
