109 data plate
I have a smaller rectangular (about 3/4" x 2") data plate that was reportedly taken off the side of a Bf109 as a war souvenir. It is a little beat up. It has the the following on it:
Bauart: Messerschmitt A.G. Sach-Nr 109 336 G Werk-Nr. 1111 Hersteller: Wr. Neustadter Flugzeugwerke I have had this plate, and one from a FW190 for several decades. As one who has been interested in German WW2 aircraft since the early 1960's, I have some knowledge of the 109 data plates. However, I was wondering if any of LWAG historians on this forum might have access to information of this particular aircraft's war service. Thanks in advance from the new guy, John Halliday |

John,
I happen to collect data/identification plates from Luftwaffe airplanes. The information on the Bf109 plate you describe ties it to a part or (sub)assembly. Unfortunately, that information does not connect the plate to a particular airplane. There were many of these plates on each plane. By comparison, plates marked with a plane's werk number, which may lead to specific historic information, were few, in some cases limited to a single main ID plate. I would enjoy seeing your Bf109 and Fw190 plates if you are so inclined. Thanks, Steve sfp54@aol.com Last edited by Stephen F. Polyak; 04-03-2016 at 12:34 AM. |
