Raid by P-38's on Foggia airfields
On August 25, 1943, 100+ P-38's strafed airfields in and around Foggia. Three fighters from the 82nd FG were shot down while attacking the Salsola field, #3.
What German or Italian pilot claimed credit for those downed and what Group was he with? |

Several German units scrambled to intercept the P-38s, and the following Luftwaffe victory claims were submitted: - Major Johannes Steinhoff, Stab Jagdgeschwader 77, P-38 destroyed five kilometres south of San Severo: altitude of 20 metres, at 09:58, his 160th aerial victory - Major Johannes Steinhoff, Stab Jagdgeschwader 77, P-38 destroyed eight kilometres south of San Severo: altitude of 20 metres, 09:59, his 161st aerial victory - Major Johannes Steinhoff, Stab Jagdgeschwader 77, P-38 destroyed ten kilometres south-south-west of San Severo: altitude of 20 metres, 10:00, his 162nd aerial victory - Oblt. Theo Lindemann, Stab Jagdgeschwader 77, P-38 destroyed at San Severo, 10:01, his third aerial victory - Major Johannes Steinhoff, Stab Jagdgeschwader 77, P-38 destroyed fifteen kilometres south-south-west of San Severo: altitude of 20 metres, his 163rd aerial victory - Fw.
