Ghost Bombers, by Nick Beale
From 12 O'Clock High!:
Nick Beale ghostbombers.com is now live Mon Nov 29, 2024 13:34 212.104.129.149 I finally got my website published. It's all Luftwaffe related material that I didn't have an outlet for elsewhere: http://www.ghostbombers.com/ There's a lot to read there now and more to come as and when I finish it (no deadlines, this is supposed to be fun, not a job!) (Taking directly from Nick's site, here is his overview: "The original idea was to publish corrections, updates and additions to my book "Ghost Bombers: The Moonlight War of NSG 9." You'll find those here ( http://www.ghostbombers.com/NSG9/nsg9frame.html ) but these pages are also an outlet for pieces of research I've done on the air war 1939-45 that aren't the right length for a book or a magazine article; and for anything else that interests me. " The various sections are: Ghost Bombers: The Moonlight War of NSG 9 - Errata and additions to the book. Operation Dragoon: August 1944 - Extensive article. Sonderstaffel Kaatsch: August-October 1944 - Article. I./JG 2 in Italy: February-April 1944 - Under construction. Bf 109G-14/AS versus Fw 190 A-9 - Comparison based on 2 ULTRA reports. Markings and camouflage - Commentaries based primarily on numerous ULTRA reports. Regards, Richard) |

Mark Huxtable Great site Tue Nov 30, 2024 00:06 202.142.40.11 Wonderful stuff Nick: Just one note - re the below: "Note: the Ghost Bombers account of the loss of Mosquito A-Apple refers to Wilmer both as a DFM (awarded to non-commissioned personnel) and a DFC (reserved for officers), a discrepancy overlooked by the author at the time. The wartime records of Both 600 and 256 Squadrons refer to a DFM. The RAF Air Historical Branch's letter to NB, quoted in the text, speaks of a DFC." Is the question whether Wilmer was ever non-commissioned? If not, there's really no discrepancy there at all - plenty of DFM winners were later awarded a DFC after receiving their commission. They retained both awards. Sorry if this is already known to you - thought I'd mention it, just in case... Cheers, Mark Huxtable |

SES Jafü Südfrankrich Tue Nov 30, 2024 08:55 80.164.4.243 Hi Nick. I very much enjoyed going through your excellent WEB-site. In your account of Operation Dragon you cover a piece of Luftwaffe history, which has been completely avalanched by Overlord - thank you. Specifically you solved one mystery for some of us, i.e. the NAME and location of Jafü Südfrankrich. Could you possibly expand on the location; La Nerthe is a village, but the usual practice was for the Jafü GefStd to be located at an airfeld. Was this what to-day is known as Aix Le Milles or was the GefStd somewhere else ? Please feel free to contact me off-board. Kind regards SES www.gyges.dk |

Nick Beale New on the web... Mon Dec 20, 2024 00:30 80.225.123.121 I’ve just added a new article to http://www.ghostbombers.com about two actions between Kittyhawks of No. 239 Wing RAF and I./SG 4 over Italy in April 1944. Also, there’s a new page commemorating three NSG 9 veterans who passed away during 2024. |
