I guess your best bet would be to post your request for information over at the 12 O'Clock High discussion forum: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/

There are lots of Battle of Britain experts on that forum, so they've probably got the answer you're looking for. By the looks of it, it was a case of mis-identification by the German pilots.
