luftwaffe plywood drop tanks question

This is a historical question. In a few aviation history books there is a mention of the luftwaffe developing plywood or pressed wood drop tanks for their me-109. This was around the time of the Battle of Britain. They leaked badly so they were never used by the luftwaffe. If anyone has further information about this topic would you post it please here
